Paper Jams

Paper jams can happen to anyone. Here's how to clear one safely without damaging your machine.

Always remove jammed paper in the direction of paper transport. Pulling paper backwards can damage the feeder or tear the document inside.

Jam in the Document Feeder

Follow these steps if paper is stuck in your document feeder.

  1. 1

Open the top cover using the grey handle.

  2. 2

Locate the paper — has it gone halfway through? If not, simply remove it carefully. If yes, continue below.

  3. 3

Lift the second side guide to locate the paper.

  4. 4

    Lift up the document feeder.

  5. 5

Push the green roller anti-clockwise (in the direction of paper transport) to safely guide the paper out.

If That Doesn't Work — Index 2

Some devices have a single-pass document feeder. In this case, use the alternative method below.

  1. 1

Open Index 2 — on a single-pass document feeder, the roller is replaced by a handle that opens a paper section where the jam may be located.

  2. 2

Use the roller or handle to guide the jammed paper out in the direction of transport.

  3. 3

Close all covers securely before resuming printing.
